Karl Jarek Joins the Leadership of the Nottingham Group, LLC as a Managing Director

The Nottingham Group, LLC is pleased to announce that Karl A. Jarek, CPA, ABV, CFS has joined the firm as a managing director. Mr. Jarek, who has over 20 years of experience in the areas of forensic accounting, auditing, litigation support, due diligence and financial reorganizations, has joined the firm as of November 12, 2007. Mr. Jarek has significant case experience in commercial disputes, construction claims and investigations – assisting in the development of damage theories, discovery, investigatitive strategy, analytical approaches and the preparation of expert witness reports.

In addition to the above, Mr. Jarek consults extensively with corporations, banks and other financial institutions in matters involving bankruptcy, collateral analysis, business plans, mergers and acquisitions, business valuation, fraud investigation and assessments of internal controls. He is also recognized as an expert in fraud prevention, detection and investigation and earned a credential as a Certified Fraud Specialist.

Mr. Jarek has provided expert witness testimony in federal and state courts and in various arbitration proceedings. He has also served as an arbitrator and as a court-appointed neutral expert on several occasions.

Mr. Jarek is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Certified Fraud Specialists. He received his BA from Waynesburg College and his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Jarek is well-published within his field and is a frequent speaker to law firms, banks and various professional organizations.

Mr. Jarek joins Nottingham team which is led by James S. Fellin CPA CFE. Mr. Jarek and Mr. Fellin unite for a total of forty years of forensic accounting experience.

James Fellin to Speak at National Fraud Examiners Conference in Orlando Florida

Managing Director James Fellin CPA CFE has been selected as a featured speaker at the national conference of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. This week long conference will be held this year in Orlando, FL beginning on July 15, 2007. Mr. Fellin will be conducting a two-hour presentation on ‘Fraud in Not For Profit Organizations’. The national conference of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners is a forum for professionals to hone their skills in detecting and preventing fraud and is attended by fraud examiners, investigators and other interested parties from throughout the nation.

The Nottingham Group Welcomes New Interns

The Nottingham Group LLC would like to welcome two new interns that have joined its professional staff. Travis Foltz, a California native comes to The Nottingham Group in Pittsburgh from Penn State University. Emily Wichryk, a native of the Pittsburgh area has also joined the Nottingham Group team from Bucknell University. Welcome Travis and Emily!

James Fellin CPA CFE Speaks at Wheeling, West Virginia Chapter of the West Virginia Society of CPA’s Monthly Meeting

James Fellin was the featured speaker at the Wheeling Chapter of the West Virginia Society of CPA’s monthly meeting held on January 24, 2007. Mr. Fellin spoke to the attendees which included CPA’s and practitioners from the area, as well as students from local colleges on forensic accounting and the nuances of conducting a forensic accounting investigation.

Ryan Heichel Begins Internship with the Nottingham Group

The Nottingham Group has accepted two interns for the spring 2007 semester including Ryan Heichel from the University of Pittsburgh. Ryan, an accounting student at Pitt will be interning with the Nottingham Group over the next few months to gain hands on experience in the field of forensic accounting.

Susan Lubinski, CPA, PhD. Takes Sabbatical From Teaching to Work With the Nottingham Group

The Nottingham Group would like to thank Susan Lubinski CPA, PhD. for her many valuable contributions and dedicated efforts to the firm over the past several months. Susan, an accounting professor at Slippery Rock University took a one-semester sabbatical to gain hands-on experience working in the field of forensic accounting. Susan was involved in a number or investigations and aided the firm with her insight and experience. Susan concluded her work in December 2006 and has resumed teaching at Slippery Rock University for the Spring 2007 semester. Ms. Lubinki will continue to be associated with the firm on projects in the future.

James Fellin Speaks at AICPA National Conference on Fraud and Litigation Services In Las Vegas, NV

James Fellin was one of the featured speakers at the American Institute of CPA’s national conference on Fraud and Litigation Services. The conference, which was attended by hundreds of fraud investigation and litigation support practitioners from all over the country was held September 26 through 29 at the Bellagio Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The subject matter of Mr. Fellin’s 90-minute seminar was “Fraud in Not For Profit Entities”.

James S. Fellin is Selected As Adjunct Professor of Forensic Accounting at Carlow University

James S. Fellin CPA CFE has been selected as an adjunct professor of Forensic Accounting at Carlow University in Pittsburgh, PA. Carlow University is one of the few higher learning institutions in the country to offer a degreed program in Forensic Accounting. Mr. Fellin with be teaching courses in Criminology and Ethics, as well as Fraud Examination Techniques.

James S. Fellin CPA CFE Graduates From The FBI Citizens Academy

James S. Fellin, managing Director for the Nottingham Group recently graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Citizens Academy. The Citizens Academy is conducted one time per year. All participants are nominated and then selected by the Agent in Charge of the local office of the FBI. The Citizens Academy is a stimulating eight-week training program that covers such topics as international and domestic terrorism, white collar crime, violent crime, electronic surveillance, evidence gathering and recovery, firearms safety and legal issues including the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act.
