Biographies of Our Managing Partners
JAMES S. FELLIN, CPA, CFE
Mr. Fellin is the Managing Principal of The Nottingham Group LLC, a boutique consulting firm specializing in forensic accounting investigations and providing litigation support services. He has over twenty-one years of experience in conducting forensic accounting investigations and performing financial and economic damage analysis for legal counsel, public and private businesses, not for profits and governmental entities. Prior to the working with the Nottingham Group, Mr. Fellin gained experience with large national consulting and forensic accounting firms.
Mr. Fellin is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the State of Pennsylvania and a Certified Fraud Examiner. Mr. Fellin is also an adjunct professor of Forensic Accounting at Carlow University located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he teaches two classes in the forensic accounting major. In 2005, he was nominated and was appointed by the Agent-In-Charge of the Pittsburgh office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to attend its Citizen's Academy in Pittsburgh. Mr. Fellin completed the academy training and graduated in May of 2006.
Mr. Fellin has extensive experience conducting forensic accounting investigations and performing analysis on a wide range of financial and accounting matters in many industries. Over his 20-year career, he has assisted counsel and clients on matters involving a myriad of issues including commercial and economic damages, business valuation, and fraud and impropriety, among others. The results of his analyses have been used as evidence in various legal forums, and have served as the basis for settlement and determination of damages.
Mr. Fellin is very involved with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), the most widely recognized organization governing the discipline of fraud investigation, with over 40,000 members all over the world. Mr. Fellin serves as President of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the ACFE and very active in programming the chapters activities.
Mr. Fellin has testified numerous times as an expert witness on various business and accounting matters on a variety of issues including economic damages and fraud. He has testified in both Federal and State Courts and at arbitration proceedings. Mr. Fellin has also been appointed as a special examiner by the bankruptcy court to conduct forensic accounting investigations.
Mr. Fellin has been a frequent speaker at local and national continuing education seminars and conferences on the topics of damages, fraud and forensic accounting. In addition, he has been published in several leading professional journals. In the recent past, he has had national speaking engagements on fraud and litigation service topics for the American Institute of CPA's and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, as well as local engagements for the Institute of Internal Auditors.
Mr. Fellin received his Bachelor of Science degree from Villanova University with a major in Accounting, and a minor in Finance. He is a member of several professional organizations including the American Institute of CPA's and the Pennsylvania Institute of CPA's. He has served on the boards of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra; the Alzheimer's Association and has participated in numerous philanthropic events and fundraisers.
