Chris Dombroski Joins The Nottingham Group

October 2011

Chris A. Dumbroski has joined The Nottingham Group as a forensic accountant.  Mr. Dombroski has a degree in economics from Dickinson College.  After college, Mr. Dumbroski obtained his law degree from DePaul University College of Law and a Master of Laws in Taxation from Villanova University Law School’s Graduate Tax Program.

James Fellin to be a Featured Speaker at George Harris Seminar

James Fellin has been selected as a speaker for George Harris & Associates Continuing Professional Education/Continuing Legal Education Seminar in Pittsburgh on November 8, 2011.  His lecture will be on the changing trends in forensic accounting.  The eight hour seminar will also feature speakers on a variety of other accounting topics throughout the day.

James Fellin Enrolls in Masters of Fraud and Forensics Program

James Fellin has been selected for and is currently enrolled in the inaugural Masters of Fraud and Forensics Program offered by Carlow University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  This cutting-edge program was created in response to the increased need for advanced training in the detection and prevention of white-collar crime.

Managing Director James Fellin Lectures on The Changing Face of Fraud at a Pittsburgh Association for Financial Professional’s Luncheon

On July 21, 2011, James Fellin spoke to the Pittsburgh Association for Financial Professionals at the Rivers Club in Pittsburgh.  He spoke on the subject of fraud, and how one can protect a company from fraud.  The Pittsburgh Association for Financial Professionals is open to individuals professionally involved in cash management, treasury management or financial management functions.

James Fellin Selected to Serve as Adjunct Professor at Carlow University

Managing director James Fellin was again selected to serve as an adjunct professor of forensic accounting at Carlow University.  His three-credit class, “Fraud Investigation Techniques”, commences in August 2011 under Carlow’s accelerated learning program.

James S. Fellin Re-Elected as President of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners

James S. Fellin has been re-elected as the President of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.  This chapter, of approximately 50 members, holds monthly seminars and continuing education programs in the area of fraud prevention and detection.

James Fellin attended the National Conference of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners in San Diego, California. The conference was attended by over 2,300 fraud professionals from around the world, who met to learn about and discuss the latest trends in fraud and advancements fraud prevention.

Karl Jarek’s Testimony Assists Client in Obtaining $2 Million Verdict

Karl Jarek testified in Federal court in the case of Crown Coal and Coke Co. v. Compass Point Resources and assisted Crown Coal in obtaining a two million dollar jury verdict.  This case, and Karl’s analysis, focused on the lost profits suffered by Crown Coal as a result of the actions of two former executives.  Details of the case were reported in The Legal Intelligencer.

Karl Jarek Attends Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Citizen’s Academy

Karl Jarek completed the Federal Bureau of Investigation Citizen’s Academy .  The Citizen’s Academy is a 10-week course for business and community leaders to foster broader knowledge of and cooperation with the FBI, the Department of Justice and other law enforcement agencies.

Karl Jarek Leads Fraud Investigation at Pittsburgh-Based Non-Profit

Karl Jarek was the lead investigator of fraud perpetrated at the Pittsburgh-based Laurel Highlands Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides services and housing to individuals with special needs.  The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette published an article citing the work of Karl and The Nottingham Group in this matter.

Diane Matthews, CPA Ph D Takes Sabbatical As Dean of Carlow University Accounting Program To Intern With the Nottingham Group, LLC

Diane Matthews, who has been the long time dean of the accounting School at Carlow and who is responsible for implementing a forensic accounting major at the school has taken a sabbatical from her work at Carlow to gain some "hands on" forensic accounting experience. To accomplish this goal, Diane is splitting her time between the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office White Collar Crime Unit and The Nottingham Group, LLC. We are excited to have Diane on staff and the new insight that she provides.

James Fellin is Featured Speaker at the Pennsylvania Association of Boroughs Legal Conference In Harrisburg, PA

On August 21, 2008, James Fellin presented to municipal solicitors from all over the State of Pennsylvania. The topic of his speech was "Conducting Forensic Audits at Municipalities". The Conference was held by the PA Association of Boroughs and featured a full day of speakers on various legal topics.

NCG’s James Fellin is Appointed As Special Examiner In a Erie, PA Bankruptcy Matter

The Nottingham Group LLC was appointed by the United States Bankruptcy Court to serve as Examiner in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy matter on August 21, 2008. The engagement involved conducting an investigation to determine the existence and value of certain assets of the Debtor, as well as an evaluation of the Debtors Amended Plan of Reorganization.

James Fellin, CPA CFE is Re-elected As President of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners

James Fellin CPA CFE has been re-elected as the President of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the ACFE. The chapter, which now boasts over 75 members, is the local chapter of the national organization which is dedicated to preventing and detecting fraud. As President, Jim would like to increase awareness and membership in the Chapter and also bring in some high-profile speakers who can share some insight on the fight against fraud and abuse.

Nottingham Group Retained by Dauphin County Board of Commissioners to Investigate Allegedly Fraudulent Invoices Charged to the County

January 2008

Karl Jarek, CPA, ABV, CFF was selected by Dauphin County (Pennsylvania) to conduct an investigation of allegedly fraudulent invoices from a vendor to the County. Based largely on the work of The Nottingham Group, the civil lawsuit regarding the fraud allegations was successfully settled in May 2008. A criminal investigation is ongoing and we will continue to assist the District Attorney in that matter.  Details of the case were reported in The Patriot News.
